Highlights of the Yiddish Song Festival on 5 August in Cape Town

June 7, 2018

Thank you Maestro! Matthew Reid has brought together some of the stars to bring us Highlights of the Yiddish Song Festivals.

Matthew has lined up

  • Aviva Pelham,

  • Beverley Chiat,

  • Caely Levy,

  • Dragana Jevtovic,

  • Ivor Joffe,

  • David Gordon and

  • Richard Gore

re-uniting them to sing their favourite Yiddish songs.

Matthew says he was inspired by Leah, Teddy & the Mandolin to reassemble the singers and musicians to revive the wonderful spirit of the annual Leah Todres Yiddish Song Festivals at the Baxter Theatre.

Their favourite songs? Watch this space - Matthew isn't telling right now, but maybe we'll be able to persuade him to give us some clues.  Any Yiddish Song Festival mavin prepared to guess which song each singer will chose?

Timing is perfect, as the concert on Sunday 5th will be just before the start of the Ot Azey Yiddish course running from 6th to 8th August at the CJSA in Sea Point.  Ot Azey is referred to as a Yiddishe mikveh - a total immersion in all things Yiddish!  The 3-day course is pure edu-tainment for glat beginners, intermediaries and Yiddishists. For more information call Amanda on +27 21 434 9691 or drop her an email at admin@cjsa.org.za.
